Installing and Configuring Virtual Appliance for vRanger 5.2.1

Deploy Virtual Appliance OVF Template

1) Connect to VMware vCenter Server.

2) Select ‘File’ and ‘Deply OVF Template’.

3) Enter the URL to deploy the OVF template as ‘http://usdownloads.quest.com.edgesuite.net/Repository/www.quest.com/latest_versions/Quest_vRangerVirtualAppliance.ova’ and select ‘Next’.

4) Confirm the OVF Template details and select ‘Next’.

5) Enter the virtual appliance name and the select the inventory location. Select ‘Next’.

6) Select the Host or Cluster to run the deployed template.Select ‘Next’

7) Select a Datastore to store the virtual machine files.Select ‘Next’

8)Select a disk format.Select ‘Next’.

9) Select the network to be used by the deployed template.Select ‘Next’.

10) Select ‘Finish’ to deploy the OVF template.

11) Select ‘Power On’

Install VMware Tools

1) Browse to the virtual machine, select ‘Guest’ and ‘Install/Upgrade VMware Tools’. This will mount the VMware Tools installation media in the CD/DVD Drive.

2) You will be required to mount the CD/DVD Drive, using the following commands:

mkdir /mnt/cdrom

mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom

3) Browse to the temporary folder using the following command:

cd /tmp

4) Untar the VMware Tools file by using the following command:

tar zxf /mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools-5.0.0-xxxx.tar.gz

NOTE:Where xxxx is the build/revision number of the VMware Workstation release.

5) Run the VMware Tools installer; accepting the default values for the configuration questions.

./vmware-install.pl

6) Restart the virtual appliance using the following command:

reboot

 Configure Virtual Appliance Network Options

1) Login to the virtual appliance

2) To change the hostname using the VI text editor, use the following command:

vi /etc/sysconfig/network

Change the hostname to the new value and save the file.

3) Restart the virtual appliance using the following command:

 reboot

4) Once restarted login to the virtual appliance

5) To change the network configuration using the VI text editor to create a confguration file for eth0, using the following command:

vi /etc/sysconfig/network-devices/ifconfig.eth0/ipv4

6) Enter the following text substituting the appropriate values where indicated and save the file:

ONBOOT=yes

SERVICE=ipv4-static

IP=<IP address of virtual appliance>

GATEWAY=<IP address of gateway>

PREFIX=<Subnet Mask>

BROADCAST=<Broadcast IP address of virtual appliance subnet>

7) Move the DHCP configuration file to the root directory to disable DHCP using the following command:

mv -v /etc/sysconfig/network-devices/ifconfig.eth0/dhcpcd /root/

8) Restart the virtual appliance using the following command:

reboot

9)  Once restarted login to the virtual appliance.

10) To configure DNS using the VI editor, run the following command:

vi /etc/resolv.conf

11) Enter the following text and save the file, substituting the appropriate values where indicated and save the file:

search <domain1> <domain2> <domain3>

nameserver <IP address of DNS server>

nameserver <IP address of DNS Server>

12) Restart the virtual appliance using the following command:

reboot

 Add Virtual Appliance to vRanger Configuration

1) Select Tools and Options.

2) Select Virtual Appliances and Configuration.

3) Select Add.

4) Select the virtual application from inventory and select enter the root password and select OK.
